Equine Diploma's

IN HORSE CARE & RIDING

As of September 2012 we will be enrolling Students on our Equine Diploma Outreach courses.

If you are interested in working with horses, buying a horse, or just furthering your equine nowledge, these courses are for you!

These will be taking the place of the current NVQ qualifications, although follow a very similar format.

Courses will run from the yard, offering both daytime and evening set training sessions, to include 1 hour of Stable Management/Care/Assessing and 1 hour of Riding Tuition. Student will also need to attend the yard for attitional hours for practice sessions, these will be at times to suit the individual student (daytime, evening or weekend).

Course Fees:

There will be a one off fee for the course made to the College of West Anglia for all students aged 19 or over who already have a NVQ 2, 5 or more GCSE's or equivalant in any subject. This fee is normally around £100.00, but will be confirmed shortly.

All students Under 19, or 19 and over without any of the above qualifications will not need to pay this course fee.

Training Fees:

All student aged 19 and over will be required to pay for their training sessions, which will be charged at £35.00 per session

Students under 19 will also recieve free training sessions.

Practice sessions are free to all.

Level Requirements and syllabus:

Level 1 - This is a great starting point if you have little knowledge of the care aspect of looking after and caring for horses, this course will cover feeding, grooming, mucking and skipping out, tacking up, plaiting, leading and many other basic skills. The riding will require you to be able to Walk, Trot and Canter, using School movements.
Level 2 - The next step on form the level 1, looking at horses illnesses, the working industry standard of looking after horses, lunging, maintaing grazing land, loading/unloading and travelling horses. The riding is split into 2 stages - the first being able to ride horses on the road and in the open, without stirrups. The second either to jump a course of 2'6" fences or ride and lead.
Level 3 - A level 2 qualification or equivilant must be gained before taking this course. This course aims to provide the student with the knowledge to be able run an equine establishment. It covers aspects of the horses health, diets, body structure, travelling, specialist tack and equipment, and we also offer the option of taking the coaching units to become a riding instructor. The riding will require you to ride a selection of horses correctly and work them to improve their way of going, jump a 3' course of show jumps, and X Country fences. We also include the ride and lead in this course if required.
